Marathon superpowers and fresh sneakers
As a novice runner training for the New York City marathon (my first, yikes), I’m buying all the goods and gear I can to somehow do this thing. Nuun electrolyte tabs are one of my new need-to-haves—they’re great for running or other strenuous activities (surfing, hiking) when you need an electrolyte boost, but they’re also useful for long days of walking around and exploring a new place. You just drop one tab in your water and boom, you get an energy boost that keeps you going a bit longer.
Every fall I tend to replace worn out shoes before the weather gets cold and wet and I really need something reliable. This year, I’m eying some New Balance sneakers—I know they’ll be comfy on long flights and busy walking days, while still being easy to dress up or down. Gotta love a multitasking shoe that saves space in your suitcase. (And find more of our favorite Prime Day shoe sales here.) —Megan Spurrell, senior editor
Ways to bundle up
As soon as the temperature drops even slightly, I’m ready to bundle up in cozy sweaters and comfortable slippers. My slippers from last year have just about had it, so I’m hoping to get a good deal on a pair of warm Ugg slippers that will actually last. I’m also in need of a half-zip pullover for the fall, and this cream one from Amazon is the perfect neutral color to pair with jeans or leggings. And of course, one thing I definitely will be adding to my Amazon cart is one of my favorite finds of all time for keeping my lips hydrated through the colder months: the Laneige lip sleeping mask. —Meaghan Kenny, associate commerce editor
Desk lunch must-haves
This Prime Day I’m also looking to refresh a few of my commuter essentials. I’ll be shopping a new leak-proof storage container set for and a new travel mug for taking my lunch and coffee on the go.—M.K.
A sleek, high-res DSLR to travel with
I’m monitoring the tech deals this Prime Day. As someone who majored in photojournalism, I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t touched my camera in years. Sure, iPhones can capture a lot, but I miss the intentional action behind taking photos on a real camera. My current DSLR is too bulky to carry around for casual use, so I’ve been on the hunt for something more compact, but just as high quality. —Mercedes Bleth, global associate director, social media
Skater safety needs
I am one of many on the Traveler team who has taken up surfing. This summer, the sport became my singular obsession and I spent almost every weekend in the water. There are many who surf year-round in New York, but I am a wimp with cold water. To hold me over until spring, I’m learning how to surfskate—which is like skateboarding, but the board is designed to simulate the feeling of riding waves while “surfing” the street. It also builds the same muscles, which I’m hoping will keep me in shape and improve my form when I get back in the water. Because I’m a beginner (and the pavement is a bit less forgiving than the water) I’m investing in gear to keep me safe, and I’ve got my eye on this fun knee/elbow pad and wrist guard set. I never thought I would acquire more outdoor gear after moving to NYC, but, hey, life is funny like that. —M.B.
A beauty fridge that makes your face feel fresh
I have a reputation in my family for being a last-minute holiday shopper. But this year, *all that will finally change—*I have a plan to beat my other family members to the good gifts by jumping on the Early Access Sale. In particular, I’m in the market for a beauty fridge to give my sister this Christmas. She has the ultimate makeup collection and routine, and I just know she’ll love the luxury of slathering chilled moisturizer onto her face. —Alex Erdekian, travel bookings editor
A fierce pack of pastel highlighters
Markers are utterly and absolutely unnecessary for me to own—but I remain obsessed with any and all writing instruments from Stabilo. I have a rainbow’s worth of 50 fine-liner pens already; I really don’t need a single marker more. Still, I have always wanted the pastel Boss highlighter pack. They would add so much delight to my planner, and I believe they were discounted last Prime day. It’s time to stock up. —A.E.
A multipurpose bookshelf worth looking at
I moved into a new apartment a couple of months ago, and while my space is coming together, it’s not quite there yet. My collection of books has filled one bookshelf and the ever-expanding spillover is currently rising in stacks on my bedroom floor. Living in a Brooklyn apartment, this multipurpose shelf will do the job of (duh) shelving books, but also serving as a container for plants, candles, and other knick knacks that need a home, adding a little style. —A.E.
Wintry goods: snow boots, cashmere, and a glittery garland
Have you met New York’s weather lately? If so, you’ll know how critical it has become—anytime other than summer—to have a durable, comfortable, and waterproof boot. And Sorel really knows how to make those. There are plenty of styles to choose from, but this Lennox Hiker style is my favorite (I hear Katie Holmes can’t get enough of it, either). —Arati Menon, global digital director
